Research!

I started off my research project from the 1st of October. Previously, I had never had a hands-on experience in a completely Wet lab oriented research project on my own. All the experience I had was just some basic laboratory techniques (nothing too fancy) and how to dig information for Scientific journals, which I presumed to be insufficient. But, little did I know, these are all I needed to start working for my research project. When I arrived here, I was instructed by my programme coordinator that I had to choose to work in one of the 20 or so research groups here in Utrecht. After carefully contemplating over my future options, I chose to work in the group headed by Prof. Dr. Emile Voest. Later, after meeting a few PhD students doing research in the group, I was given my own research proposal and a work space in the UMC. Being an amateur in this new field, I was something like a fish out of a pond and into the sea, I had to learn a whole new perspective of life as a researcher getting accustomed to the new lifestyle not bound by routine timings and an unscrupulous high intake of Caffine. In this field, work is done with 100% concentration and dedication and every experiment, irrespective of the result, had something to teach me. And now, the more the experiments I perform and the deeper I dig, the better are my chances of completing my project successfully. I personally believe that, I will grow not only intellectually but also as psychologically as an outcome of this endeavor.
The only drawback to all this is; a very limited social life and little time to enjoy the other fruits of life...
