I can remember that it was 15 years ago when I started praying for having an opportunity to study abroad. I know that my parents could not afford to realize my dream, but I am sure that somehow my dream will come true. Then, fifteen years latter, one day before my 23rd birthday, I got a phone call confirming that finally my dream came true.
When doing medicine in my bachelor education, I found that cancer really gives devastating burdens to the patients, their family, and nations. Most patients I encountered in my clinical part were on their late stage of cancer with little hope for getting cured. Ever since, I was committed myself on cancer study to bring hope for these patients. However, differing from my other colleagues who persue their career in clinical medicine, I chose my first love, science.
I fell honored to get accepted in Cancer Genomics and Developmental Biology pretige master program. It has been 3 months that I have been part of the research group of Prof. Johannes L. Bos in UMC Utrecht, an outstanding research group! Not having an intense lab work experience before, I felt overwhelmed initially. But with the rest of the group's encouragement and smiles, now, I am much more comfortable and independent. Moreover, I can ride my bike to the lab, thanks to my Indian and Irish flatmates who trained me how to ride a bicycle. I also saw my first snow here in Utrecht and can't wait to have my first white christmas.
This has been a life-transforming experience. I can't wait to experience and get transformed even more and hopefully to transform the world around me through research I am engaged in. In my first post I want to express my deepest gratitude for those who have made this real for me. Terima kasih.
