REMS

Hello again, I’m still in Istanbul for the holidays. I spent the last a few days to prepare my application for a summer intensive program on race, ethnicity and migration studies (REMS), proposed by MERM program. This program offers a great opportunity to students interested in research related to ethnicity and migration. There are two components of the program. Firstly in May, there will be a two-week summer institute at Utrecht University. There will be many scholars coming from abroad. We will have the chance to attend seminars, participate in discussion sessions and work together in activities. I was very excited to prepare my application cause I believe that this institute will widen my perspective and enrich my knowledge on migration studies. The second component of this summer program consists of an independent study at one of the American universities with which Utrecht University has partnership. We have the chance to work personally with an American scholar. I will hopefully work in advance on my M.A. thesis. This exchange provides us the possibility to observe and compare how similar issues on migration are studied in the United States. Writing my motivation letter for this program, I realized that one of my expectations from Utrecht University has already been realized in a way. It was a key factor for me to choose Utrecht University that this university is a world-wide leading center of high quality, innovative research and education where students and professionals can exchange ideas in an international environment. Participating in this summer program will make me feel like I’m a part of this international environment and I’m looking forward to that. Hope I’ll be able to organize everything and I will be writing you about my experiences of this program in summer.. That’s all from me this week. A classmate from Utrecht will come to visit me on Wednesday and I’m trying to make the best plan to make the most of the city just in four days! See u next time…
