Drinks with Utrecht University Alumni

Last Friday, the university hosted a drinks reception for alumni of the university to continue with the fundraising campaign for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Programme. The attendees to the event were not only alumni, but also people who promote higher education in The Netherlands. The event was particularly relevant to me because Professor Peter Driessen, director of the Master’s programme in Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geosciences, gave an informal talk about my programme. He spoke about the success factors that need to be in place for the programme in Sustainable Development to make a key contribution to society. This event was a great opportunity to meet other recipients of the UES and to compare our studies and experiences in the Netherlands. It was very motivating to see that most of the students are very happy living in Utrecht and following their master programme. Also, it was interesting to meet alumni from Utrecht University and talk to them about their impressions on student and professional life. Hopefully, efforts like these will continue to raise awareness on the UES programme and will attract donations that can help talented students from outside the European Union to come and study at this university.
