Last week I celebrated not only my birthday but also Queen's Day and Liberation Day. It was a week full of sunshine and partying! To celebrate my birthday I threw a party with the theme "Celebrating the best of the 80's". Big hair, flourescent colours and the best of music from the 80's made a great night. Friends from Utrecht gathered their best 80's outfits and partied with me until 5 am!
On Queen's Day, I travelled with a few friends to Amsterdam to experience the all-out, all-orange, all-drunk celebrations. The city was packed with people. We walked for the whole day joining the events along the way and meeting new people. The crawds reminded me a little of Mexican celebrations, which by definition, involved thousands of people out in the streets.
The sunny days have also made me think a lot of Mexico. I had forgoten how it feels to be hot and thirsty all day! I find the Dutch summer beautiful. Everyone seems to be in a good mood and eager to get a sun tan!
Time has passed by so quickly. Soon I will complete my first year of studies and I will have to start working on my thesis. There are many interesting issues which I would like to research, however, in the next month I have to define my project and start with literature review; reason for which I will be spending a lot of the summer sitting under a tree at Whilhemina Park!
