Three months have passed since my first step at Schiphol Airport. I had experienced quite a lot here in the Netherlands and surely there are plenty more to come in the next 21 months. I was very pleased to be admitted at Master Programme of Epidemiology in Utrecht University which is well-known for its good research qualities. Epidemiology belongs to the Life Sciences Faculty and has cooperation with UMC (Universitair Medisch Centrum) Utrecht. In this program, I meet people from different health-related background as my classmates such as physicians, veterinarians, nurses, and pharmacists. I, myself is a pharmacist.
Epidemiology is quite a new thing for me. I have learned a little bit about Epidemiology when I was in my undergraduate study but never thought it will be very compelling to me right now. In this program I learn about how to design a patient-oriented research to serve as a new knowledge to improve health and life quality of a society. To make it simple, Epidemiology is a study about the occurrence relation between the health-related outcome and its causes. A question such as what the relation between smoking and lung cancer is addressed in epidemiological research. For those who want to know more about epidemiology and how fun studying in Utrecht will be, I will share my past and surely my upcoming experiences with you here in this blog.
