Hello Spring

It seems everyone is in trouble now when the winter is over. The good thing is we passed another winter and the wanted spring is almost here. I don't really know what to expect from this new season ! I guess there won't be any snow or cold days. It's just a guess but given the snowless winter we had it might be a warm spring. I have never been here in spring but i'm looking forward to enjoy the colourfull flowers and the endless green that is to come.
Besides spring coming the other good news is we started a new semester. For me now it's really the time to apply what i have learned last semester or better said last years. By the way it's been 11 years since i first discovered that physics is for me. This semester i have more courses and a lot to study. The courses i chose cover subjects that are very important for a future theoretician. I'm doing general relativity, string theory and a course on particle physics. General relativity is one of the treasures Einstein left us. It's all about aspects of gravity near the speed of light. Maybe you are used with Newton's gravity. That still holds if you are moving slow enough. On the other hand string theory put together quantum mechanics and general relativity to explain gravity in a very hard to understand mathematical way. I hope i will manage to understand a little bit of it. And then the last course, the one on particle physics, is the hardest one but in the same time the course that i am really interested in. It reveals a series some of the theoretical secrets of the fundamental particles and the so called "standard model". We study all kind of symmetries and methods to compute and make predictions of what the experiments (like those made at Cern or FermiLab) could reveal sometime in the future.
This is the story of my courses. By the way this might be the last semester with courses for me. If successfully completed it is followed by one year of research for my thesis. But it's such a long way there ! And a spring to enjoy !
