Life in the UMC...

It has been quite a while since my last post. But, there is no reason to panic, as I had just been quite busy with the doldrums of my research at the UMC (Universitair Medisch Centrum, Utrecht). It seems kind of strange, but the more I walk around the UMC, the more confused I am... It seems like an extremely huge labyrinth of medical equipments, labs and research equipments all converging on the focus of a better health care. And I have to mention this, it sure is quite a pleasure to work in this wondrous establishment. No matter how many times I get lost, I always manage to find my way back to my lab thanks to the friendly staff of the UMC. And, ofcourse wherever I look, theres always someone wearing a white coat with the UMC logo whom I keep bumping into often! This whole white coat stuff gives an inherent research facility feel to the entire establishment, which makes it all the more exciting, not to mention the state-of-the-art research facilities. The restaurant "de Brink", which is now my favourite hangout apart from my lab in the UMC, is something worth mentioning here. Not only they serve good, hot food but also the rates are a bit cheaper when compared to the other places in the campus I have come across, which ofcourse is a culinary delight in itself for a student's pocket! The best part of all this is, there is one or the other thing happening within the UMC that can keep me quite engaged for the whole day, be it seminars or lectures or courses or plain "simple" research (which is ofcourse, figuratively speaking)! The seminars that are usually held here are of quite a high caliber and for me, as a student, is quite interesting to attend these and get to know more about the research going on in the other places within the UMC. It also provides a great opportunity to interact with peers, professors and the like. And not to mention the "borrel" that is accompanies every lecture!!!
