Scope of UES

Hey there, I’m writing from Utrecht after quite a long time. Though second semester courses began only in February, I came back to Utrecht around ten days before to get used to my life here. Maybe this time may seem long for some people but I feel the need. I just need to re familiarize myself with everything like the culture, the people, the language, the weather and living on my own.. Anyways, in addition to that, I’ve got new beginnings in my life. I will take this time to get prepared for this new period in my life: Finally, I’ve got my work permit! This means that I will be able to work as a research assistant in the Graduate School of Social and Behavioral Sciences for the next 5 months. That’s a part time job where I will be working with a PHD student. I will be assisting him with his project. Though it will be difficult to work next to my studies, I find it to be a great opportunity. Probably the project will be on media content analysis, which means that we will examine how some issues are treated in the media. That is also interesting for me since I have no experience on this field. On the other hand, since I’m writing for UES weblog, I would also like to mention the fact that one of the reasons that I wanted to have this job was to earn some money. Normally Utrecht Excellence Scholarship only pays the tuition fee for the students but we are still responsible for financing all the rest like accommodation, insurance, daily expenses etc. Even though I have the double amount of UES, I needed this job to afford these additional expenses. Like in my case, for many international students living in Europe is quite expensive, that’s why it would be nice if the scope of UES could actually be increased. That’s all from me now, I’ve got many things to do like making the photocopies of the second semester readings – you can be sure that students spend a fortune on them... See you next time..
